Why choose 10 And 2:

Safety First
When you give your teenager the car keys and watch them drive away on their own for the first time, you need confidence they’re prepared. That’s our job. We focus on safety and preparation to ensure your teenager will be safe on the road.
Personal Service
We care about our students and give them individual service to provide them with the confidence they need to be safe drivers. Whether this means extra class time and answers, or picking up  adult students for private lessons, we are focused on customer service.
Small Class Size
Our students get the personal attention and time they need to be confident, safe drivers. That includes providing an intimate, safe setting for students to learn in the class. We keep our class sizes limited to ensure a quality class experience.
Fully Certified
Our instructors are state certified and our classes are approved by the State of Michigan. Upon successful completion of Segment One our students are eligible to obtain their driver’s permit, and upon successful completion of Segment Two classes, our students are eligible to take their road test to obtain their drivers license.
Private Lessons

Many students like to practice their driving with our friendly and patient certified instructors. (Using our dual-control, safe drivers education vehicles.) We offer single private lessons and bulk hour purchases for savings. We’ll even come pick you up if needed if you live within 5 miles!

Adult Lessons

We specialize in teaching adults how to drive or help adults gain the confidence they need to be safe drivers. Whether you’re new to the country or have never driven a day in your life – we provide adults with the private lessons using our dual-controlled drivers education vehicle. (And yes, we can come pick you up for your lessons within 5 miles.)

Do You Have Any Questions?

This can be overwhelming at first.   Often, people are unsure of the age requirements for student drivers (either for class enrollment or for private lessons).  And, we are regularly asked about driving certifications, licensing and permits.  Let us make this easy for you!

What age can my teenager enroll in drivers education?
Teens can enroll in Segment One classes as early as 14 years and 8 months up to 17 years old.

What is Segment One vs. Segment Two?
Both Segment One and Segment Two courses are required for teens under 18 to obtain their drivers license. Segment One is approximately a 3-4 week course consisting of 12 class sessions and 6 behind the wheel lessons where students learn the basic skills of driving and the rules of the road. Segment Two is is a three day classroom only course (no driving) where students learn about impaired driving, restrictions of their license and the dangers of distracted driving.

Tell me about driving practice hours
Segment One has a minimum of 6 hours of behind the wheel driving lessons. Teens will learn to drive on residential streets, main roads and the expressway. We'll also teach them the parking skills they will need to pass the state road test. Driving lessons will be scheduled to accommodate your busy schedule as best as possible at times that are convenient for you.

When do I get my driver's permit?

After successful completion of the Segment One course, 10 And 2 Driving Academy will issue your teen a certificate of completion which they will take to their local Secretary of State branch along with supporting documentation to obtain their Level One Learners License (The Permit).

What are the restrictions of a driver's permit?

In Segment Two, our instructors will go over the restrictions of your teens level one learners license such as when they can drive, who they can drive with and what they are prohibited from doing while driving. Parents can also visit the Secretary of State website for a list of the restrictions so you can help your teen avoid tickets and fines associated with breaking the rules.

Who can I practice my driving with?

Most students practice their driving with their parent or guardian. However, many busy and nervous parents choose to have their teen practice with our state certified instructors to get their required 50 hours of practice time in before they take their road test. 10 And 2 Driving Academy offers discounted prices on bulk behind the wheel lessons if parents or teens would prefer to drive with our friendly instructors.

How do I schedule my private lessons?

Private lessons can be conveniently scheduled online or over the phone. Whether you've never been behind the wheel of a car before or if you're an experienced driver just looking for some extra help passing your state road test, we can help. For your convenience, we will even pick you up at your home or work.

What kind of vehicles does your school use?

10 And 2 Driving Academy has well maintained, insured and bonded vehicles equipped with a dual controlled instructor brake for the safest lesson possible.

You can really pick me up?

Yep.  When you schedule your private driving time with our instructors, there is no need for you to find a ride to get to us.  We'll simply come to you.  (Within 5 miles of our location)  When your lesson is complete, we'll drop you back off where we picked you up -- or we can drop you off elsewhere.  (Whatever makes your lesson scheduling more convenient!)

Tell me about adult lessons
Adult lessons are behind the wheel lessons for anyone over 18 years of age with a Temporary Instruction Permit. (T.I.P.) We offer lessons for any skill level from the beginner, to someone preparing to take their road test. If you are a new, nervous or hesitant driver, have no fear. Our friendly instructors will give you the skills to become a safe and confident driver.

When do I get my drivers license?
The whole process from the time they receive their permit to the time they receive their license is approximately 6 months. Once they have taken both Segment One and Segment Two courses, completed all 50 hours of their required behind the wheel practice on their Level One Learners License, and successfully passed their road test, they are eligible to obtain their license on their 16th birthday.

What are the restrictions of a new driver's license?
Our instructors will go over the restrictions of the Level Two Drivers License in great detail with your teen during Segment Two classes. We will teach them when they are restricted from driving, who they are restricted from driving with and what they are prohibited from doing while driving. Parents can also check out the restrictions on the Secretary of State website so you can help your teen avoid tickets and fines associated with braking the rules.

How many hours of practice driving is required?
Students who have completed the Segment One course and obtained their permit are required to practice a minimum of 30 hours of driving with two of those hours being at night before they can take the Segment Two course. They must present a driving log by the first day of their Segment Two class. Before taking the road test, students must have a total of 50 hours of behind the wheel practice with at least 10 of those hours being night time driving.

What are "private lessons"?
Private lessons are behind the wheel lessons for any teen with a Level One Learners License or any adult with a Temporary Instruction Permit. We offer tailored lessons based on your skill level to help you gain the skills and confidence to be a safe driver. We offer single lessons to help brush up on a specific skill or bulk lessons for the beginner just learning to drive.
